How to translate Dokan using Loco Translate?

The Dokan is one of the best fully-fledged multi-vendor marketplace solutions. The most common question for Dokan is

Can we translate the Dokan plugin into a different language?

The answer is yes. Like all other WordPress plugins, the Dokan can be used in different languages after translation.

So, how can we translate the Dokan? Is there any easy or convenient way to do that? Or there will be no confusion about putting the translated file in the proper file location?

Yes, we can use the “Loco Translate” plugin who do the job easier for us.

Now, the question will come in that how can we translate the “Dokan” plugin using the “Loco Translate”?

To do that please follow my below guidance to know how can we translate the Dokan plugin easily with the “Loco Translate” plugin.

Step 1:

First of all, we need to install and activate the “Loco Translate” plugin from the WordPress repository using our plugin panel or we can download it from the following link: https://wordpress.org/plugins/loco-translate and upload it to our plugin panel then activate it.

Step 2:

Congratulation we’ve activated the plugin. Now, we need to navigate WordPress Dashboard > Loco Translate > Plugins.

In this step, if we’re the user of the Dokan Pro plugin then one more question will come to mind the do I need to translate the Dokan or Dokan Pro or both?

Since the Dokan and Dokan Pro are two individual plugins then we need to translate both plugins.

So for the Dokan Lite (free) plugin, we will choose the “Dokan” and for the “Dokan Pro” we will choose the “Dokan Pro”.

Step 3:

(if you’re the user of only the Dokan free plugin, then you can skip this step)

In this step, we will do some changes to the Dokan Pro plugin. Firstly, go to the “Advanced” tab.

From that tab, we need to change the “Text Domain”“File Prefix”, and “Template File”.

The “Text Domain” should be “dokan” instead of “dokan-pro”“File Prefix” should be the “dokan” instead of “dokan-pro” and the “Template File” should be “languages/dokan.pot” instead of “languages/dokan-pro.pot”.

Finally, save the changes by click on the “Save Config” button.

Step 4:

Now we’re on the “Overview” tab. From that tab, click on the “New Template”. After clicking this will take you to the new page. From there, we need to choose our desired language from the dropdown.

Here I’m choosing “Spanish (Spain)”.

Also, we need to choose the location. I recommended everyone to choose the location as per the below screenshot so for any reason if we need to delete the “Loco Translate” plugin, at least our translation keeps safe and secure.

Finally, click on the “Start Translate” button to starts the translation.

Step 5:

Here we need to change every single text in your selected language.

Since we’ve chosen Spanish (Spain), so we’re changing texts to Spanish. The method applies to all languages.

If we’re native Spanish speakers then the job is easy for us but if we’re not then we can take help from Google Translate.

Just copy a text and paste it into Google Translate. And copy the translated text and paste it into the “Loco Translate” translation panel.

After translating the texts click on the “Save” button.

Step 6:

Congratulation, we’ve done the translation of the Dokan plugin. Now, we need to change the “Site Language” from the WordPress Dashboard > Settings > General and hit on the “Save Changes” button.

Bonus Part:

The translation can be done automatically using another compatible plugin of the Loco Translate named Automatic Translate Addon For Loco Translate by Cool Plugins.

To translate automatically, we need to click on the Auto Translate button after creating the translation file. By clicking that will open a floating window. There will be options to choose on the floating window from which translation service provider you would like to use for translation.

There have 3 options (Yandex {free}, Google & DeepL), and 2 of them required to have a premium license. So, after clicking on the [Service Provider] Translate button, it will redirect to the next step window. We need to click on the Translate button, and after completing the translation process, we need to click on the Merge Translation button.

After that, we will be redirected to another floating window. Here, we need to choose Mark new translations as Fuzzy and click on the Translate button.

Great!! The automatic translation process is done successfully.
